Sparitual Water 2012 Nail Lacquer Collection Preview

Earlier this month I was privileged to be invited to Sparitual's launch of their Water 2012 Nail Lacquer Collection, held at Food for Thought in Waterloo Street. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the launch because I stupidly forgot to bring my camera, but the event was very enjoyable.

Their Water 2012 collection for spring is inspired by the "creative flow of energy that travels through us, much in the same way water travels throughout the earth". Their collection was designed to "encourage us to listen to the undercurrents of our subconscious that allows positive thoughts, emotions, and creativity to rise to the surface of our conscious mind".

The polish names are certainly representative of the theme- Deep, an irredscent reflection of moonlight; Lucid, a lilac blue hue; Ebb & Flow, a light aqua like the sky; Undercurrent, a dark blue like the ocean floor; Ripple Effect, a creamy & dusty mauve;  Hidden Reef, a shimmering coral.

The event was really fun, there was great food, and it was my first ever launch that I've attended, so I got to meet a lot of other Singaporean bloggers as well which was lovely! The Sparitual staff were also giving free manicures with the colours! It wasn't really a full manicure, it was just painting the nails but it was nice having someone who really knew nails to paint them, in contrast to all the crappy manicures I've paid for in the past.

Anyway I got my nails painted with Undercurrent, a lovely navy blue, with a tinge of grey in it.

We were also sent home with little mini polishes from the collection.

Most bloggers have swatched these colours so you can google to find those, I didn't swatch them because I want to wear each one as a full manicure. So far I've tried Deep, which is a colour between grey and blue, with purple shimmer. The purple shimmer's quite hidden so you only see it in full sunlight.

You can see a bit of the shimmer here, in indirect sunlight.

Then bam! Full revelation of the purple shimmer! It's really beautiful, in the hide-and-seek kind of way.

There were also other samples given, but I've only used this:

You're supposed to apply the hand serum first, then the hand salve. I love the hand serum, it's absorbed wonderfully into the skin, and no greasiness at all. However, I can't say that for the hand salve. It does absorb well, feels like there's no greasiness, but when you wash your hands, say, an hour later, you most certainly feel the greasiness. I'm not a fan of that.

Sparitual is a great brand, I love their philosophy, and it's even more awesome that part of the proceeds of the sale of their Water 2012 lacquers is donated to Surge for Water, which is a US non-profit organization that improves access to clean, safe water for communities around the world that need this resource for drinking or plant irrigation.

I also learnt something new about Sparitual- their parent company is Orly! That explains why Sparitual full sized polishes have the rubber handle like Orly polishes do, and why the mini ones don't, just like mini Orly polishes don't!

I'd love to try some of the other Sparitual polishes, unfortunately, it's a rather high end brand, so that being said, I'm not so sure I want to spend that kind of money on just a regular creme or shimmer or glitter polish. I'm all for paying for something really unique, but SGD25 for just a regular creme or shimmer or glitter polish..... Furthermore, while the polishes are really gorgeous, and they're 4-free, they are also dupeable. Perhaps not exactly, but Lucid, Ebb & Flow and Hidden Reef probably have very close dupes out there.

Anyway these polishes are nontheless lovely to use, their formula is really great- streak free, no messes, and if you look at the above picture of Undercurrent, there's no base coat or top coat and it looks pretty damn good!

I honestly love the theme of this collection, as someone who actually dives, I must say that the polish colours do remind me of certain times when I dive. Hidden Reef really does look like the colour of corals, eg:

(This was taken last year in Bali.)

This picture below also strongly reminds me of Undercurrent.

(Taken in Manado, 2010, looking down into the depths while swimming besides a coral wall.)

Deep also reminded me of this- when the sun is searingly hot, and you're underwater and swimming towards the surface.

And my last shot:

Okay this doesn't exactly remind me of any particular colour from the collection, maybe Ebb & Flow, but it's just an awesome shot that I'm really proud of.

I digress. Back to the collection, if you're interested in purchasing it, please contact Goldian Trading, they are the distributor for Singapore. Sparitual products can also be purchased at the Essencevale Spa.
